Obituary

With broken hearts, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, we said goodbye to husband, dad and Opa, Jake Wiebe, as he passed away peacefully, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB., after a very brief battle with cancer with family at his side.

Dad was the oldest of four children. Born to Jake and Mary Wiebe in Winnipeg on July 24, 1948. Dad reached an age of 72 years & 9 months. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith on May 25, 1969. Mom and Dad got married on Mar. 8, 1969 and were married for 52 years.

Dad is survived by mom, Betty, one son David of Steinbach and one daughter Kathy (Ben Schroeder) of Sarto; eight grandchildren: Brian, Stephanie, Vicky (Daniel), Kaitlyn (Tim), Brooklyn (Jordan), Brittany, Matthew and Abigail; five great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, one sister, two brothers and their spouses, along with in-laws, nieces & nephews and many friends.

Dad was predeceased by his parents Jake & Mary Wiebe, his daughter Valerie, son-in-law Peter and great-granddaughter Isabella.

Dad tried his hands in several occupations starting at a young age of 16. He started off working in in construction and decided to venture off and try driving long distance for a few years. After having three children he decided to go back into carpentry again so he could be home with the family. Dad was the job supervisor for many different projects such as the museum built in Kenora and the Grunthal Menno Home addition. He was also the contractor for the Steinbach Sommerfeld Church, the New Bothwell Church, the Altona church addition and also the first Birchwood Funeral Chapel that was built in Steinbach. He’s also done built many homes and did home renovations. Dad took a lot of pride in his work as a finishing carpenter and was self employed and his company was JW Contracting. Another job he enjoyed was helping out in the funeral homes and even directed a few funerals himself.

Dad was a Sunday school teacher for many many years in the New Bothwell church and was very well liked by many of his students.

We the family would like to thank the doctors and the nurses at the Bethesda Hospital for taking such good care of dad while we couldn’t be there for him. Dad always had a great sense of humour and the nurses all said he was a pleasant patient and always stayed positive. He will truly be missed by all.

Donations may be made to skin cancer (Melanoma).
