On Tuesday, September 28th, 2021, Ronald Babel passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.
He was a beloved husband, Papa, Opi, brother, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Gudrun, daughters Beatrice (John) and Charlin (Daniel), grandchildren Angelina, Lorelee, Benjamin, Alice, Evelyn, and Amelia, and his siblings Uwe, Holger, Gabi, Micha, and Ramona, along with their families. He was predeceased by his mother Lieselotte, father Bernhard, and siblings Elke and Fred.
Ronald was born in Germany on April 4, 1965, the second youngest of eight children. He grew up in a small village and spent his days playing outside with friends. He learned to play guitar, and became a talented musician. He married the love of his life, Gudrun, in 1989 and together they built a beautiful life. In 2001, Ronald, along with his wife and two daughters, moved to Steinbach, MB. This is when Ronald became a Christian and chose to live the rest of his life serving the Lord. He joined many worship bands, and used his guitar and singing to bless many people. It was always a joy to hear him singing and playing guitar at home and at various events.
Ronald was a hard worker, often doing many projects at home, for his painting and renovation business, and helping out friends and family whenever a hand was needed. He decided to go to Booth University College and became certified in chaplaincy and spiritual care in 2013. Ronald continued his education at Steinbach Bible College and graduated there in 2018, and became ordained in March 2019. He had a heart for people and truly listened when someone spoke to him. Ronald had a gift for sharing the love of Jesus with everyone around him and enjoyed writing devotions.
Ronald’s faith was unwavering and evident to all who knew him. He was a man of God and never doubted His faithfulness, even after a devastating diagnosis of ALS in 2020. He touched the hearts and lives of many, and will be remembered with smiles on our faces. Though there are many tears here on earth, we also rejoice knowing that Ronald is in heaven, playing guitar and singing with the angels!
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” ~ Psalm 23
The Family would like to thank Dr. Reimer, palliative care nurse Melanie, and all others who cared and prayed for us and Ronald during this journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba in memory of Ronald Babel.
The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB., followed by the interment at Heritage Cemetery.
