Obituary

Gerhard Wiebe, aged 87 years of Arborg, MB., passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Gimli Community Health Centre.

Gerhard is survived by five sons and eight daughters; Susan Wiebe, Anna Reimer, Peter (Florence) Wiebe, Marie (Jim) Plett, Jake (Annie) Wiebe, Tina (Danny) Loewen, George (Verna) Wiebe, Helen (Les) Loewen, Margie (Jake) Penner, Nettie Wiebe, Abe (Susie) Wiebe, Johnny (Beverly) Wiebe, and Martha Wiebe. He also leaves behind 49 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

Gerhard was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria, two children in infancy, son-in-law Bernie Reimer, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Gerhard was born on December 27, 1933, in Kronsthal, Mexico and married Maria Rempel on September 27, 1953. They lived in Mexico until moving to Arborg, Manitoba, in the spring of 1977. Gerhard co-started a machine shop with a friend in 1982. In 1983 he went on to establish Diemo Machine Works together with his son, and being joined a few years later by a son-in-law.

Gerhard was a hard-working and dedicated husband, father, and entrepreneur. He persevered through the good times and the hard times, finding a way to keep his family looked after. Dad and Mom had a happy marriage for over 63 years. They were often seen teasing each other in a fun way, and couldn’t stand being apart for any length of time. Mom’s passing on April 26, 2017, left a huge void in Dad’s life. Dad made the best of it; however, coming up with new wood-working projects to build, going for coffee at Diemo, or having someone over for a visit. He was an avid reader, able to read and speak 4 languages.

Gerhard had a strong faith in Jesus, having made a profession of faith in his teenage years. He believed the Bible and stood strong in his convictions. At times these convictions cost him a lot, but he was convinced that living in the blessing of God was more important than temporary gain. Dad lived an example of faith and trust in Jesus.

Dad will be greatly missed, but we know it is only for a short time. We are confident that he has run the race, finished the course, and is now receiving the reward laid up for him in heaven.
