Obituary

Mary Braun of Steinbach, formerly of Grunthal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, at the age of 85.

Mary is survived by her children: Gerry (Debbie), Daryl (Eleanor), Coralee (Bob), Joyce (Ernie) & Garth (Linda) and their families. She is also survived by her sisters Nettie Kauenhofen and Susan Fehr and her brothers Henry (Helen), Pete (Linda), Ben (Susan), John (Lenora) and sisters-in-law Agatha and Tina and their families, as well as the Braun family.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Jake Braun in 2014, her parents Bernard & Maria Kauenhofen, brothers Jake, Dave & Cornie Kauenhofen and sister Tina Bergen.

Mom and Dad married on July 1, 1951; together they raised five children in the Grunthal area. Mom loved being a homemaker she took great pride in baking, cleaning and inviting people for Faspa. In 1966 Mom got a part time job at the Grunthal Post Office, which later turned into a full time job. Later she worked at various retail positions in Steinbach, she loved being with the public. She finally retired at the age of 77.

Mom & Dad enjoyed travelling, as a family we had many great memories of vacationing in various locations in Canada. They also spent many winters going to warm destinations, they loved making new friends and connecting with old friends. Mom and Dad always made time to visit their children and grandchildren.

Mom struggled with many health issues over the years. This past spring she moved into the Bethesda Rehab unit, awaiting placement to a PCH, it was obvious she could no longer live on her own.

A word mom used to describe her life was “Fulfilled” ~ she felt blessed to have had such a kind, caring and loving husband and family.

As a family we appreciate the love and care Mom received from the homecare staff, the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, the staff at Bridgepark Manor and all the family and friends who visited.

The memorial service for Mary will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

A private family burial will take place prior to the service.
