Obituary

Laura Heckert (nee Wiebe) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, Manitoba.

She is survived by her one daughter Caroline, three sisters-in-law and one sister-in-law on the Heckert side. She also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill Heckert, her parents Julius and Susan Wiebe, one sister Gertrude, three brothers: Harold, Harvey and Denver, one brother-in-law and one niece.

Laura was born on April 30, 1927 in the RM of Roland, MB. At a young age the family moved to Steinbach. Going to school until the age of 14 and then going to work. Laura worked for various

homes in Steinbach: cleaning, helping prepare meals and caring for children.

At the young age of 13 she fell in love with Bill, he was the love of her life and they spent 40 loving years together.

Laura was very involved with the Lutheran Church in many ways, singing in German and English choirs, teaching Sunday school, ladies aid, bible study, serving at funerals and quilting.

She was involved with the beginning of the Kindale School. She would help the teacher in the classroom with the students. She was involved with ACL Steinbach, now enVision Community Living helping with fundraisers, like the spring teas. She continued to be a supporter throughout the years.

Laura enjoyed bowling, going on bus tours, taking rides in the country, reading and long phone conversations. She was an avid sports fan watching hockey, curling and baseball. Laura was a great cook and an amazing baker.

The family would like to thank the 911 dispatcher, EMS, doctors and nurses in Emergency and Medicine units. Dr. Dan llchyna for his compassion and care through-out the years. We would also like to thank all the home care staff, Pastor

The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach, Manitoba. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the service.

The burial will take place after the service at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery on Highway 12 South.
