Obituary

Janet Tina Reimer Rempel was born on April 12, 1932, in Steinbach, Manitoba, to Jacob and Agnes Reimer. She peacefully slipped away on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba, reaching the age of 90 years.

Janet grew up on a farm in the Giroux area in a family of ten children. She accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour and was baptised into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on April 8, 1947, at the age of 15 years. Her Saviour became her Shepherd for life. She spent some time in her youth years working in a municipal hospital in Winnipeg. She also spent time working at a fruit cannery in Ontario. Working with her hands was what she really enjoyed, and she performed well at this job.

She was married to me, Bill (William Rempel) on March 29, 1953. We shared life’s joys and sorrows together for 69 1/2 years. To this union were born seven sons and four daughters. We spent most of these years in the Rosenort area, moving off the farm and spending some years in the town of Rosenort. The last seven years were spent at the Maplewood Manor.

Mom was a busy person, caring for her children with unconditional love. We remember her being very active and efficient as she provided us all with our needs. She also had a large garden because she needed it. One highlight of her life was the trip that Mom and Dad took to Churchill, Manitoba. After the children left home, she continued to enjoy being busy with her hands, quilting and crocheting. Although she was not always blessed with good mental health throughout her life, she always had a way of bringing her many fears and anxieties to her kind and loving Shepherd, who was her guide and comfort to the end. Mom had a huge heart for the underprivileged. She loved to give generously of herself and often did so in her own special way.

In 2015, life changed again, and Mom moved to Maplewood Manor. Although the adjustments were not always easy, she resigned herself and filled a wonderful place in our lives as children. We will treasure those memories of going to visit her there. In the last years, her love language was holding our hands. She loved to listen to singing and would often hum along to the songs that were familiar to her.

Those left to cherish fond memories are her devoted husband Bill (William), her children: Murray and Gladys, Neepawa, Manitoba; Bruce, Calgary, Alberta; Joanne and Robert Goossen, Altona, Manitoba; Reg and Karen, Calgary, Alberta; Wanda and Nelson Toews, Rosenort, Manitoba; Robert and Laverna, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Annette and Norm Bonneteau, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Jer and Cheryl, Rosenort, Manitoba; Dan and Christine, Rosenort, Manitoba; Andy, Winnipeg, Manitoba; 47 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother Don and Edith Reimer, two sisters Elma Giesbrecht, and Sue and Don Barkman; eight brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, a precious baby daughter Marilyn, four brothers and two sisters; 15 brothers and sisters-in-law; also one niece and one nephew.

As a family, we would especially like to thank the Maplewood Manor staff for their love and care for her through the last seven years of her life.
