Obituary

Curtis William Unger was born to William and Cynthia (Bjorndal) Unger, in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, on July 19, 1978.

He grew up in Osler, Saskatchewan, with his four sisters. He attended Osler Elementary School through grade nine and then attended Valley Christian Academy for his high school years and graduated in 1996. Curtis accepted Jesus into his heart at the age of five and was baptized upon confession of his faith on June 19, 1994. Curtis enjoyed being a camp counselor at Rosthern Youth Farm Bible Camp throughout his summers in high school. He attended Millar College of the Bible and continued working his summers at Daughin Bible Camp until receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies in 1999. Curtis loved music and was a talented guitar player. He was in a band for a number of years with some of his college friends. They were from Manitoba and so he moved from Saskatchewan to Steinbach, Manitoba. Soon after he met Mica Fast (Riemer), and they were married in the year 2000. Curtis then became a proud father of his son Rogan, and daughter Navlin. Curtis had worked at several different jobs in the Steinbach area; working on a hog farm, for Loewen Windows, and Golden West Radio. He was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease when he was 24, as a result it soon affected his ability to do his job in a satisfactory manner and he was unable to continue working around the age of 30. His illness also strained his relationship with his wife and children and so they separated. Curt then lived on his own for several years before going into a group home in Steinbach. His condition grew to the point of needing more care so he was moved to a nursing home in Niverville where he lived for the remainder of his life. On March 23, with his dad and sister by his side, he went home peacefully to be with the Lord.

He leaves behind his son Rogan, and his daughter Navlin as well as his father William (Maria), sisters Teresa (Doerkson), Melissa (Millin), Nichole (Watier), Patricia (Peters), and two step-sisters Judy (Neufeld) and Elli (Friesen), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed.

The memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

We wish to express our appreciation for the many prayers and words of encouragement for our family.
