Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Bill (William) Wynychuk, on Sunday May, 21, 2023 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

Bill leaves to cherish his many memories, his loving wife of 50 years; Tina. His children; Rob (Vivian), Debbie Miller (Albert), Jerry (Tracy) grandchildren Cole, Brooklyn, Andrew and Daylan. Sister; Kathy (Nestor) Stadnyk, brothers-in-law; Jake (Mary), Cornie (Janet), Peter (Debbie), Willy (Debbie) and John. Sisters-in-law; Mary Hepner (Wayne), Agatha Wall, Marge Abbeg (Gerry), Lena Chapman (Dave), Grace Mason (Wally) Ann Swereda (Mel). As well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; Jim and Mary, brother; Peter, parents-in-law; Jacob and Maria Wall, brothers-in-law; Paul Bezditny and Bill Mason.

Bill was the oldest child of 3 being born to Jim and Mary on the 10th day of January, 1946 in Steinbach, Manitoba. Bill spent his childhood farming on the family homestead in Pansy, Manitoba. In his teens he moved to Winnipeg and became a butcher at Eatons and lived with his uncle Bill Krilyk. He then acquired his Class 1 drivers and began working for Southeast Forest Products. Bill found his true calling a few years later when he was introduced into the line of heavy equipment. He worked for numerous construction companies. To name a few there was Hugh Munro, Taillieu, Borland, Tasker, and Shrier Bill took great pride in running the cat and scrapper, and the grader. The family remembers when driving over a road or beside a ditch, that he had a hand in building, how Bill would get this big grin on his face and say, “I helped build that”. He was always so proud of his work.

During the winter months Bill worked for Sobering Security spending his weekend nights keeping the dances in the area under control. Pretty sure there is a few stories out there about his security days.

In the summer of 1972, Bill met Tina. After a brief courtship they were married October 28, 1972.

Bill and Tina rented and later moved their own house to Pansy Corner where Tina still resides. Here they welcomed there 3 children into the world.

Bill loved anything and everything outdoors. Playing baseball for the Sarto Royals. Hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, snowmobiling, picking mushrooms and berries. You name it he probably did it at some point.

In the spring of 2004, Bill was in a pretty serious car accident, a few months later he would have double by-pass surgery. This is when Bill became a professional coffee drinker and a regular at every auction sale around. We believe every auctioneer in the area knew him by his first name and not a number.

Bill’s health took a toll on him in 2015 when he suffered his first stroke. In 2016 he had one that would take away his freedom, putting him in a wheelchair.

In the winter of 2016, Bill moved to the Vita PCH and acquired his electric wheelchair, which would once again give him some freedom to go to Co-op for coffee with the guys. Over the years in Vita, we got many calls from the locals letting us know that Bill had been in their gardens helping himself to tomatoes.

In 2020, Covid took the life out of Bill when he was not allowed to leave the facility. We noticed the change in him then, and now Covid was what took his last breath from him.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Vita PCH for having him in their care for the last number of years. As well as the Bethesda Medicine Unit and Emergency Unit for their care and compassion in his final days.
