Tina was born on February 22, 1920. She was born in Silberfeld, MB where she got her education in the Silberfeld School District. She was raised on a farm, learning to work hard in a large family. She had six sisters and five brothers. Eventually, working in Gretna, she met and married her first husband, Herman Kehler on October 17, 1940. They lived in Gretna for 44 years and then moved to Winnipeg. They were married for a total of 47 years. Tina cared for Herman, who suffered with Parkinson Disease, for 16 years before he passed away.
Tina married David Janzen on October 6, 1988 and had five good years before several strokes and years in a nursing home took him Home. Tina used to visit many older shut-ins and did home care while in Gretna. She taught Sunday School for 15 years, was a custodian for the Gretna Bergthaler Church for 14 years, and was a member of the Willing Helpers Ladies’ Group serving at weddings, funerals, Credit Union and Co-op meetings.
Tina also found time to curl, watch hockey and baseball games, camp and fish in the Whiteshell.
She did volunteer work at Bethel Place and took care of the Guest Room for 24 years. She always said God had given her strength and good health. Tina was happy living in Bethel Place and to have her friends and the Church next door. She enjoyed her computer with which she kept in close touch with family and friends. There was playing Scrabble and having lunch with her six sisters each month which they called “Sister Day”.
In May of 2016 things changed for Tina. She fell and spent many weeks in hospital, only to be moved to Riverview Personal Care Home and on October 12, 2016 she took up permanent residence in Pembina Place Personal Care Home until her demise.
Tina was a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.
Tina leaves four sons: William (Kathleen); Larry (Audrey); Wayne (Colleen) and Ray (Kathy); eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; step-children: Gerald (Cathie); Douglas (Carmell) Janzen and their families; five grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; four sisters; three brothers and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by: her parents Gerhard and Margaretha Loewen; her first husband Herman Kehler; two sons in infancy; two sisters; two brothers and her second husband David Janzen.
The viewing service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford St, Winnipeg MB.
The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church. The interment will take place at Gretna Cemetery prior to the service.
