Obituary

On March 13, 2018, Sara Janz passed away peacefully at the Menno Home for the Aged, Grunthal, MB.

Sara was born on February 22, 1916 in Southern Russia.

Sara is predeceased by her husband Nick, two brothers, six sisters, her parents, and grandchildren Lucas and Kelly.

She is survived by her children Rose (Ernie), Elsie (Mark), Sally (John) and Len (Hermina); grandchildren Sandra, Janice (Sean), Sheldon (Stacy), Jenn (Paul), Allison (Steve), Tammy, Genevieve (Adam), Becky, Josh (Bailee), Amy (Donovan), Jessica (Jamie), Joe (Kim) and Megan; Great-grandchildren Travis (Alisha), Carollyne (Brad), Sarah, Mercedes, Peyton, Emma, Liam, Simon, Jacob, Erin, Joanah, Jude, Addie and Violet; and Great-Great-grandchild Chloe.

At a young age her family came to Canada. She resided in Glenlea until she married her husband Nick. Together they farmed in Grunthal. Upon retirement, they opened the Cottonwood Corner Game Farm, which hosted many visitors from around the world. She loved gardening, animals, sewing, drawing, reading and spending time with her family. She was always very gracious and quick to smile or even giggle. She was an amazing cook who always had her grandkids favourite cookies around. Her bright blue eyes were always twinkling. She considered herself a tomboy in her youth and loved riding horses and target practice.

As a family we would like to thank the caregivers in her life: the many home care workers while she was in assisted living; the staff at the De Salaberry District Health Centre who took care of her for a year before her move to the Menno Home; and the amazing staff at the Grunthal Menno Home who cared for her with such love and kindness – some of them even calling her grandma – as well as making sure the family was comfortable while we sat with her in her last days.

Flowers are gratefully declined; instead donations may be made in her name to the Grunthal Menno Home PO Box 1284, Grunthal, MB , R0A 0R0 or the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre PO Box 165, Ile-des-Chenes, MB R0A 0T0.

A private family service will be held graveside prior to the church service.

A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Elim Mennonite Church in Grunthal, MB.

Lunch will be served following the service.
