Obituary

It is with extremely broken hearts we announce the untimely passing of Jennifer Dawn Kowaluk on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the age 40.

Jen will be greatly missed by her daughters, Abby and Julia Kowaluk, mother Kathy Wintoniw, sister and brother-in-law, Becky & Paul Janzen and their daughters, Reagan & Rylee Janzen, and the father of her daughters, Sheldon Kowaluk, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is predeceased by her father, Ernie Wintoniw, her grandparents Dan & Agnes Lewis and her Baba & Gido John and Anne Wintoniw.

Jen was born in Winnipeg, MB, on August 4, 1983. She grew up in Steinbach, MB., and graduated from Steinbach Regional Secondary School in 2001. Jen went on to earn a diploma with honours in Hospitality from Red River College. She started her career at the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, then worked for the last 16 years as an Association Coordinator at Strauss Event & Association Management.

Jen loved spending time with family and friends and found great joy in taking her children to the beach. In her youth she enjoyed curling, softball, camping, and going to concerts, as well as attending Sunday School and Pioneer Girls.

Jen bravely faced cancer twice in her life. She was always courageous and strong with every challenge and setback that it brought her. Despite the toll it took on her, she always made space to care for those who loved her. We are grateful that she is now at peace and no longer in pain.

Jen was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and wife. She was a compassionate, kind, gentle soul who cared so deeply for those around her. She was beautiful inside and out; and her smile lit up a room. She will be endlessly missed and live on in our hearts and memories forever. Until we meet again.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors and staff at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, CancerCare staff in Steinbach and the doctors and staff at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

The family very much appreciates of all the support, prayers, meals, cards, and flowers that the community and extended family have so graciously provided.

The livestreamed memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 465 Henry Street, Steinbach, MB. Interment will follow at St Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
