Obituary

On Thursday, April 19, 2018 our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Blatz, age 90 of Steinbach, MB passed away. We were very fortunate that we had the means to manage her care at home and she could die peacefully in the comfort of her own surroundings.

She is survived by four sons, two daughters and their families.

She is also survived by one brother Pete (Tina) Neufeld and one sister-in-law Jessie Neufeld, as well as Dick’s family; the Blatz’s, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and of course all of her musical buddies that she played and sang with each week at Rest Haven Nursing Home and the Pat Porter Center.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Diedrich Blatz, three sons and two daughters. Coincidentally Mom passed away on the one year anniversary of our sister Carol’s passing in 2017.

Although this date has been debated and changed over the years, Mary was born on November 24th, 1927 in Neuhorst Village to John D. & Katharina Neufeld. Mom lived a long full life with good health and independence until January 2018 when she fell ill and could not recover.

A visitation will be held on Thursday April 26, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. A celebration of songs and stories will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, MB, with the interment at Randolph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to enVision Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.

We have discovered our Mother had a generous heart and supported various organizations through charitable giving.
