Obituary

Ruby Goodman, age 79, of Sprague, MB passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

The sudden passing of our beloved Ruby will be deeply felt by her husband Stan, daughter Tammy (Tom) Hebel, son Kenneth (Andrea) Rozsa, her sister Marie, brother Jack Mills, her grandchildren: Dayna, Kelsey, and Jordan (Hebel), Stephanie (Nicholas), Tiffany (Kevin), and Courtney (Rozsa), Shane, Tiffany and Cole (Recksiedler), Cydney, Justin, Mindy (Levi) and Brook (Goodman) and Kierra, Brynn and Micah (Miller) and great-grandchildren Isabelle and Dax (Thunder).

Lovingly thought of but too numerous to mention her in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Ruby was predeceased by her husbands Ernest Rozsa and Earl Recksiedler, her mother and father, and her brother Ed.

Ruby was born on May 31, 1938 in Vita, MB to Emma (Olson) and Jack Mills. She spent the early part of her life on a homestead north of Sprague with her sister Marie and brothers Ed & Jack, attending the Golden Branch School and helping out with her family.

When Ruby was 11, her family moved to the town of Sprague and went to Ross L. Gray School. Time was busy for her doing chores, working at Emes Store and doing odd jobs. At the age of 17, Ruby attended the University of Manitoba for teacher training and then went on to teach in Inwood and Ericksdale for a year. Upon finishing her teaching job, she moved to Winnipeg where she worked for three years at the Bank of Montreal. When her mom passed away in 1959, she returned home to Sprague to take care of her brother and sister.

In 1960, Ruby married Ernest Rozsa, also of Sprague where they raised their two children, Tammy & Ken. Over the years she had a variety of jobs, working as a teacher’s aide, at the credit union and then for the Manitoba Government in administration and as a homecare coordinator until her retirement in 1992.

She was an active member of the community always volunteering where she could. She worked as a school board trustee for 10 years and was a member of the Lions Club. She also worked on several committees, including the kindergarten, senior’s housing, plant and health committees.

She was also a member of the Sprague Baptist Church.

Ruby’s love for family and friends was apparent to all who knew her. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to sew and paint. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never missed an opportunity to see them perform at a concert or a sporting event.

Ruby loved to travel and in the early part of her retirement spent several months a year in Arizona.

She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and hospitality.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sprague Centennial Hall, Sprague, MB.

If friends desire, donations in memory of Ruby may be made to East Borderland Community Housing, Box 207, Sprague, Manitoba, R0A 1Z0.
