Obituary

Bernhard Krause, age 79, of Grunthal, MB., passed away peacefully due to cancer, on Saturday, February 8th, 2025, at De Salaberry & District Health Centre, St. Pierre, MB.

He is survived by six children, Erika (Aaron) Weatherl, Frida McKay, Darlene (Myron) Penner, Anita (Ian) Henderson, Irvin (Marcia) Krause, Elnora (Jeff) Hildebrand, as well as 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, two sisters and their spouses and many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Aganetha Wiebe, his parents, Bernhard Krause and Margaretha Krause (Falk), six siblings and one son, Ernie Krause (1994).

Dad was born on April 12th, 1945, in Canada. His parents moved the family to Paraguay in 1948. He married Aganetha Wiebe and they were baptized together in their early 20’s. They had five children, a boy and four girls. Shortly after the youngest was born, his wife passed away. Dad remarried and they had a son in 1977.

Dad had a career in the logging industry. This was a tough job and meant working long days and sometimes staying away overnight.

Dad and his family moved to Canada in 1979 and a year later, had a daughter, for a total of seven kids. They settled in New Bothwell for the first few years and later moved to the country, near Mitchell. Dad worked at Palliser Furniture for most of his working years. Dad and his wife divorced in the early 1990’s. He moved to Winnipeg at that time. In 2012, Dad had a major heart attack which required surgery and a lengthy stay in the hospital. This was a catalyst for positive changes in his life. After retirement, he settled in Grunthal. He made some good friends and attended church on a regular basis.

Dad had a gentle and quiet way about him but could be quite determined when he felt strongly about something. He had a good sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh. He loved having coffee at the Red Wing Diner with friends.

Dad enjoyed taking his kids out for supper from time to time. He found happiness in being together and listening to the ridiculous conversations we would have and laughing together.

Dad was not a complainer. He very much wanted to be a person who was easy to be around and in his last days, someone who was easy to care for. The later years of his life were lived very contentedly right up to his last breath.

Dad was sure of his faith, thankful for God’s saving grace and had accepted God’s forgiveness and gift of salvation. He was ready and excited to meet His Creator and Saviour.

We want to thank the staff at St. Pierre Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care for dad and our family.
