Obituary
Susanna Neufeld (nee Rempel), age 97, of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully with her son by her side on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Rest Haven Care Home.
She is survived by her son Delnor Neufeld and his wife Kimberla Lawson, and son Joshua Lawson; sisters Chris Neufeld, Sarah Wiebe, and Margaret Schlamp, in-laws Peter and Sally Dueck, Helen Neufeld, and Lena Neufeld.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gerhard and Sarah Rempel; husband Abram Neufeld, brothers Peter, George, John and William (Bill), sisters Tina, Anne, Marie, Helen; and two siblings in infancy, Bernard, and Elizabeth.
Susanna was fascinated by the number seven in many of the milestones in her life. Susanna was born on September 29, 1927, started school at age 7 and attended until grade 7, was baptized May 27, 1947, married April 7, 1957, son Delnor was born January 23, 1967, her husband Abram Neufeld met his maker on August 7, 1970, and grandson Joshua Lawson was born June 7, 2003.
Following is the self-written obituary Susanna wrote on January 2, 2008.
“I was left to care for our son Delnor and the farm in the Wymark/Swift Current area. God who promised to never leave you nor forsake you according to Hebrews 13:5, has always provided help for us. Some times were difficult but I still got help.
A year after Abram’s passing Delnor (4 at the time) and I went to Steinbach Bible College to be an assistant cook. My husband and I had been here before, so the work was not new to me. Delnor had lots of playmates. Children from staff also the students were kind to him.
I was given opportunities to serve in the church as Sunday school teacher and cradle roll ministries. It has been rewarding to see some of the children being missionaries today.
I was born in Rosenhof (Swift Current), Saskatchewan… At this point in my life January 2, 2008, I am still enjoying life and doing volunteer jobs. I am looking forward to a glorious future with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Meet you there.”
In the fall of 2018, Susanna moved from her condominium in Stone Creek Courts to Maplewood Nursing Home. In May of 2020, she moved to Rest Haven Care Home. During her time at Rest Haven Susanna continued to make friends, was involved in many activities, loved to puzzle and play games and was blessed by the care given by the loving staff.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow before the reception at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
