Obituary

In the early hours of Wednesday, June 20, 2018, our father and grandfather passed away at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB, after having visited with his family in the days before. He had fought a long and difficult battle with cancer.

Bill was born in Winnipeg and raised in Oak Point. He was the second oldest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Emma Waterman, his older sister Evelyn (Joey), and second wife Carole Waterman (nee Kostna).

Bill worked for many years as a bookkeeper and tax preparer after graduating from Success Business College. He worked for Capital Accounting and had his own business, Rite-Way Accounting, for many years. He maintained a few clients until he was no longer able to work. Being a fellow who liked to try many things, he also worked for the City of Winnipeg in a few different roles. He was a city police officer in his early years and worked as a park police officer at Kildonan Park. He worked at Transit Treasury until he retired.

Dad enjoyed his kids and was often out in the yard with us and our friends directing games of tag or officiating foot races. We would often go for family bike rides, skating at the rink near grandma’s or cross-country skiing. Because Dad worked shift work these activities were often in the peacefulness of late night.

Dad was raised on the family farm and loved animals and the outdoors. He enjoyed taking us on camping trips. His favourite destination was BC for the mountains and his Aunt’s cakes. He and Carole were able to return to the farm and raise sheep. Each with its own name and personality that he liked to tell you about.

Dad will be forever remembered and missed by his children: Diana Waterman (Cam Chase), Wendy Freeman (Paul) and Ken Waterman (Amy); his step-children: Dallas Kostna (Candace), Paul Kostna (Nicole Girardin) and Jaret Kostna; his grandchildren: Daryl, Craig, Benjamin, Alexandra, Brynn, Will, Caitlin, Jonathan, Shyan and Haley; brother Glenn (Pete) Waterman (Davilyn Eyolfson); sister Marlene Longmire (Doug); the mother of his children Marilyn Waterman (nee Thorsteinson) and nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the Doctors and staff of Cancer Care and St Boniface Palliative Care for their compassion and care.

The memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Point Community Club, Lot 6 Congdon St, Oak Point, MB R0C 2J0.
