Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin (Al) Deschauer, beloved husband, father, grandfather (Papa), great-grandfather, and friend. Al passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Steinbach, Manitoba, at the age of 90.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Al taught high school in Gimli, Manitoba, before embarking on a life in business. He began with a printing company, Southview Publishing, and later developed a rural vocational education program in Southern Manitoba before shifting his focus to real estate development. Having an exciting project on the go was the lifeblood for Al; he had a gift for seeing possibilities where others saw barriers, building and creating with joy, and bringing people along with him.

Al will be forever missed and always remembered with love by his wife of 69 years, Doreen (Obirek). Doreen and Al were inseparable in business ventures and family life, moving through the world as a true team – steadfast, supportive, and happiest when together.

Al was predeceased by his brother, Ken.

Al is survived by his wife: Doreen; children: Dorian (Joy), John Peter “Lucky” (Siobhan), Francine (Chad), Maria (Michael), Baron (Shoshanna), and Justin (Jill); and his grandchildren: Siobhan (Mark), Courtney (Marci), Lisa (Jason), Alexandra (Sam), Ysi, Katrina (Levi), Wilfred (Gini), Ryan, Maximus, and Kate. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Zolie, Malcolm, Theodore, Charles, and Colin, who brought him tremendous pride and joy.

The celebration of Al’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews Street, Winnipeg, MB.
