Gordon Clifford Joseph Landry, son of Elsie Landry (nee Snyder) and Denis Landry passed away in Morris on March 23rd, 2026. Born on December 7th, 1951 in Vancouver, British Columbia, he was known to many people simply as Gord. He was a devoted father, Grandfather, brother, Uncle, and friend to all.
Gord grew up in the community of Morris, where he spent much of his life creating memories with his siblings, building friendships, going to school, getting married, raising a family, and becoming a familiar face to many in the community of Morris. Gord went to Red River College in 1975 to obtain his Meat Cutting Certificate, which led him to accepting a job in Nakina, Ontario where he worked at Hudson Bay Northern Stores as a Store/Meat Manager. He would continue to have a long career in several Coop stores throughout Manitoba taking on the Meat Manager/Store Manager positions, as well as General Manager position at Vermilion Bay Coop in Ontario. After leaving Ontario in 1995, Gord relocated his family back to Morris where he pursued a business dream of owning his own store: Landry’s Quality Meats. Gord took great pride in owning his own business and loved seeing everyone in the community come into the store. In 2005, he made the decision to close his business and return back to his career with Coop stores and eventually retired from the company. For him, it was never just a job – it was about people. He valued conversations, relationships, and being someone others could count on.
Gord was known for being kind, fun, strong-willed, and determined. His laughter was contagious and it made you want to laugh along with him. Prior to his mother’s passing,he enjoyed daily visits with his mother playing lightning rounds of cribbage to which he usually went home disappointed. His friends and family meant everything to him, and he showed that love in simple but meaningful ways: going on fishing trips with his friends and family, visiting his siblings, morning coffee on the weekends, and inviting people over for a barbeque in his yard.
Outside of work, Gord spent time raising his 4 children: Dana, Dale, Jeff, and Jenn. He never missed an opportunity to tell them he was proud of them and almost always ended a conversation with an “I love you”. But if you really wanted to see Gord light up, you only had to watch him with his granddaughters, Violet and Lily. He was proudly their number one hockey fan, cheering them on every chance he got. Gord was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. He rarely missed a game and loved having friends and family down to watch the games at the “Landry Centre”. Creating moments and memories, filled with excitement, conversation, and family, were some of his favourites. At home, he was never far from the company of his dogs, Bam-Bam and later Byfuglien, who were always close by and dearly loved.
Gordon is survived by his children, Dale, Jeff, and Jenn (Richard); his granddaughters, Violet and Lily; his siblings, Joanne , Lynette (Don), Tammy (Brian), Larry (Jean), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Dana, his brother, Kim; and brother-in-law George.
We will think of him often – in the quiet of the outdoors, in the cheer of a hockey game, and in every moment spent together.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 28th at 2:00 PM at the Morris Baptist Church. A private internment will be held for family at a later date.
In Our Hearts
We thought of you today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And the days before that, too
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
Now all we have is memories
And your picture in a frame
Your memory is a keepsake
With which we’ll never part
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our hearts
