Eleanor Zacharias (nee Dueck) passed away peacefully, with family by her side on May 12, 2026 at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, MB., at the age of 98.
Eleanor was born on February 8, 1928, in Morris, Manitoba, Canada. She was born into a wonderful Christian home filled with love, care, and protection.
Eleanor attended school in a lovely little community called Flowery Bank, where she went to school from Grade 1 through 9. She remembered the area fondly for its beautiful wildflowers and the close-knit community atmosphere. After finishing grade 9, she stayed home to help on the family farm. Her mother often said Eleanor was her “right-hand helper.”
Throughout her life, Eleanor enjoyed volunteering in different places and found great joy in helping others. One of her favorite hobbies was ceramics, especially creating different dolls and animals.
Eleanor became a Christian at the age of nine and was baptized in July of 1946. Her faith remained the foundation of her life.
She met the love of her life, Dick, at a community barn ball game in Riverside. Eleanor boasted to us with these words: “I have loved him ever since.”
Eleanor and Dick were married on November 3, 1946. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with seven children.
Eleanor often thanked the Lord for her wonderful family and for all He had done for them.
Her hobbies continued to include ceramics and volunteering at MCC. For a season, she was the chairperson of the RFC Ladies Fellowship, which brought her much joy. She also cherished the old hymn:
“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine. Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine. Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.”
Eleanor and Dick loved to travel together. Among the special places they visited were the Holy City of Jerusalem and Korea, where they attended the world’s largest Christian Businessmen’s Convention. They also treasured coming home to family.
Eleanor lost the love of her life in November 1999, when Dick went home to be with the Lord. They were married 53 years. They are now reunited, once again.
Eleanor’s life was marked by faith, love, service, devotion to family, acceptance and gratitude for the many blessings God gave her throughout her life.
