Obituary

Jacob Nikkel, age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Bethesda Place, Steinbach.

Dad was born to Peter and Justina Nikkel, on a farm near Grunthal, Manitoba, the only son amidst four sisters. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Tina (Neufeld) Nikkel on Easter Sunday, 2021.

At age 23 he initiated the move to the farm south of Landmark where he and Tina raised their four children, Peter, Annie, John, and Elvira. Dad was a dedicated farmer producing cows, pigs, and chickens as well as the grain crops.

After retiring to Steinbach, he continued farming on a smaller scale, sharing his garden produce with friends and neighbours. For nearly a decade he lived at Bridgepark Manor until a fall necessitated the move to Bethesda Place. We are so grateful for the excellent care he received there.

The funeral service for Jake will take place Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery.
