Obituary
Peacefully, with family by her side, Pamela Rae Toews (nee Friesen) passed away at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 58 years.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Jeff, her mother, Irma Friesen, her sister Paula Friesen and her husband Mike Ho, her nieces Dana Sheppard (Katelyn) and Jenna Buchanan (Jaime), her great grand-niece Ramona Sheppard, and her Toews family: Gary (Wendy) and their children Robert (Suzanne) and their children Parker (Kayla) and Kennedy, Tony and his son David, and Michael; Grant (Martha) and their son Chezney (Kylie); many loving uncles, aunts and cousins.
Pam was predeceased by her father, Vernon Friesen, her grandparents on both sides, and some beloved uncles, aunts and cousins.
Pam was born on July 17, 1967, in Burnaby, BC, the second daughter to Vern and Irma Friesen. As a child she had curly blonde hair, a dimpled smile and an independent spirit. We remember a time when she disappeared from the house at age 2 and in a panic her parents searched the neighbourhood. They found her in the local park, happily swinging by herself in the playground.
The family moved to Delta, BC for Pam’s early elementary school years, then to Steinbach when Pam was 8 years old. It was there she made some good friendships, and in high school forged a close connection with the Landmark gang (you know who you are).
Pam met Jeff Toews in 1994; they started out friends and as it happens, they ended up eloping in 1998 to Las Vegas. Pam and Jeff lived in Steinbach throughout Pam’s life; she was employed at a couple of local businesses, with the Jake Epp Library being her most recent.
Anyone who met her knew that music was an integral part of Pam’s life; she loved to go to concerts and have something playing on her stereo all the time. She was an avid fan of 1980s Canadian bands, the Toronto Blue Jays, Beverly Hills 90210, Slurpees, old movies, pizza, more pizza, her nieces and nephews and especially her great grand-niece. She had a sharp sense of humour and wherever she went, people laughed.
A celebration of Pam’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Crossings Funeral Care at 12E-40 North Gate Drive, Steinbach, MB with a reception to follow where friends and family will be able to share their memories of Pammy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Krahn, Dr. Toews, and staff at CancerCare Manitoba in Steinbach, and Dr. Reimer and palliative care staff at the Bethesda Regional Health Care Centre for their care and compassion.
