Obituary
Floyd Henry Hiebert, 91, of Steinbach passed away on Sunday, July 12 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach.
He is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Norm) Hiebert and Jane Hiebert and son David Hiebert.
Floyd is predeceased by his wife Norma.
Dad was born in Steinbach, MB., on August 29, 1934. He was the youngest of six children.
They lived in a house behind their furniture store until grandpa died when Dad was only 12 years old. Sadly, Grandma died eight years later.
At the end of grade 9, Dad’s entrepreneurial spirit began to take shape when a summer job of assembling farm machinery became a permanent position. That lead to other work such as truck driving, delivering fertilizer, road construction and eventually acquiring Brookdale Pontiac Buick.
It was during this time that Dad met, and married Mom and the children soon followed – Cheryl in 1957, Jane in 1959, and David in 1961.
At age 46, Dad sold the car dealership and retired. But he soon got bored. So, he worked at Hildebrandt Music and Jewelry store and sold real estate. He was encouraged to purchase the Ford dealership in town. J.R. Friesen and Son became Fairway Ford.
Dad decided to retire again and sold the dealership. Shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. He was only 57 when he was diagnosed. After doctors here said there was nothing more they could do for him, a trip to the Mayo Clinic and a new drug saved his life.
When not working Dad had many hobbies and interests. These included skiing, tennis, golf, flying his airplane, water skiing, boating, and fishing.
He travelled to many other countries and traveled with his family throughout the USA and Canada. He was deeply committed to his faith and was involved for many years in various church committees and activities.
To this day we hear from many of Dad’s employees who have spoken of Dad’s integrity, fairness and generosity.
Family times were important to Dad. There was a lot of laughter and fun times with family and friends.
In the last few years, Dad was content at Bridge Park Manor. He never complained. Dad lived a long, full life. He will be in our hearts forever.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17 at 2:00 PM at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery. The viewing will take place prior to the service.
