Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our dear beloved son Kevin on July 13, 2026, in Winnipeg at the young age of 39.

Kevin was predeceased by his older brothers Derek & Steven, uncles Gary Bergen, Randy Jaques & Eric Cooper, auntie Norma Lee, and his grandparents Jake and Jessie Bergen, Harold & Patricia Cooper (Bahamas).

Kevin will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his mom Shirley, stepdad Mike, brother Kenton and son Tyson Cooper, step sister Amanda and daughter Avery, & step brother Denis Konowalchuk. His father Henry Cooper, his aunts and uncles Lawrence and Irma Bergen, Dan and Karen Goertzen, Brenda Jaques, Bessiemae Grant, Harold Cooper and his cousins Lorne, Marc, James Ryan, Kari, Craig, Steven, Nicole, (Marcus, Eulamae, Kimberly, Kipling, Katie, Brian, Anastasia, Tonya, Harold Jr, Earl, Felecia Kendra, and Luke fr the Bahamas).

Kevin came into this world Feb 3, 1987 on a cold winter morning. He grew up with his bother Kenton for the first 6 years of his life in Wpg The move to Lorette to start his first year of school was challenging, making new friends and getting comfortable with his surroundings. The promise was that as soon as we moved to our own house he would be able to have a pet, so it was a done deal. CJ the cat moved in and we relocated to Lorette.

Kevin loved to explore, making many friends in school. In his teen years he would say he was bored in school, his exact words. He talked me into getting him a dirt bike at age 14 which was short lived as he decided just driving on the street near the house was not enough. I would get calls of him driving all over town, so his beloved dirt bike had to go.

Kevin had an independent spirit yet always a smile on his face, looking for his next adventure. In his later years, he found himself living back in Wpg making new friends and living the way he saw fit.

He always stayed in close touch with me, his brother Kenton and his Dad who relied on him to assist with grocery shopping and to keep him company.

Kevin worked a few jobs however none lasting more than a few months.

Kevin’s mental health issues finally explained why and what we were seeing in his life.

Kevin had a good heart and loved his family to the end always calling to check up and letting us know he was alright.

The challenges he faced finally took a toll on Kevin.

A few highlights for Kevin were taking a family trip to the west coast by car in 1995 to visit and check out Banff, Calgary and Penticton and then in 1998 taking a trip to the Bahamas to meet his grandparents and his many cousins. He was so excited to discover another world.

Another candle that flickered has gone out in my world and our hearts are broken. We will truly miss your smiles and laughter Kevin. We love you so much… until we meet again.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, July 26 ,2026 at Crossings Funeral Care. A light reception and interment will follow the service.
