Obituary

It is with profound sadness, although not sadness without hope, that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother/grandmother and sister, Katherine (Tina) Pries Broesky Schroeder, on the morning of July 26th, 2026; peacefully at home at the age of 81 Years.
Mom fought a courageous but brief battle with lung cancer, diagnosed in February of this year. GOD gave us an extra 5 months with Mom beyond her 81st birthday.
Remaining to cherish Tina’s memory are her children: Jacqueline Cathy, Brenda Lorie (Kristen) Loeppky, Derek George, Tammy Gloria, Stephanie LaDawn Wiens and Christina Dawn (Michael) Palmer; grandchildren ~ Nathan Schroeder; Alexander and Samuel, and their dad, Cameron Peters; Thomias Loeppky; Kasia Logeot; Trace, Isaiah, and Ashley Wiens, with their dad, Jeremy; Malachi, Elijah, and Baby Palmer, number 3.
Special friends of the family: Nicole Savard, Tyler Hoard, David Horton, and Ryan Horton.
Mom is also survived by brothers Cornie, Martin, and Peter Broesky; sisters Nettie Penner and Helen (Stan) Banman; sister-in-law Edna Broesky, brother-in-law Peter Wiens, numerous nieces and nephews, and their families. Mom is also survived by three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law on the Schroeder’s side and their families.
Kathy/Tina was predeceased by her husband, George P. Schroeder, and by her parents, the late Johan W. & Anna P. Broesky; and by her parents-in-law, the late John F. and Gertrude Schroeder from Steinbach; two sons, Robert Gerhard & one stillborn; two brothers, John and Jake; sisters Anne Wiebe Neufeld, Mary Wiens, and Agatha Neufeld; four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law from the Broesky and Schroeder sides together, respectively.
Our beloved mother was born on February 20, 1945, almost sharing a birthday with her brother Martin. She was born in Schoenenberg, Manitoba, which is now known as Grunthal.
Mom was a very vibrant, energetic person. Often filled with vigor and laughter, especially in her very early years and then after Dad passed. She loved humor, and we believe this helped to keep her young.
Mom’s favorite music entailed country, especially Alan Jackson, and Ukrainian music, which she enjoyed dancing to.
She often struggled with depression and was diagnosed with schizophrenia in her early twenties. The last few years saw her so happy and exuberant. We often saw this as a gift from GOD as a second chance of happiness with her because, growing up with Mom, we experienced many sad visits with her in the hospital.
Mom accepted JESUS as her personal Saviour from a young age, so we grieve, but not as people without hope; we will see her again.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” ~ Revelation 21:4
To honour Kathy’s life, a viewing will be held on August 1, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Crossings Funeral Care, located at 12E-40 North Gate Drive, Steinbach, MB. Following the viewing, a short program will begin at 2:30 p.m.
