Obituary

With great sadness, our family announces the passing of Frank Hyde on July 28, 2026 at the age of 91 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nicolai and Annie (Goertzen), his siblings, Henry, John (Fern), Ian (Connie), Anne (Oscar), Sarah (Walter), Louella, Jack, George, and brother-in-law Rudolf.

He is survived by his wife Mavis, children Colin and Cameron (Donna), two grandchildren Christine (Aaron) and Kerry (Ashly), four great-grandchildren Micah, Jackson, Maddyn, and Emersyn. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor (Rudolf), and his sister-in-law Hazel (Jack).

Frank was born and raised in Lowe Farm, Manitoba, where he spent his childhood in a small house attached to the town’s post office. He often shared memories of growing up during the Second World War, especially of the low-flying aircraft that passed over town. Those moments inspired in him a lifelong love of airplanes – a passion that began with building model planes as a boy and stayed with him throughout his life. As an adult, he joined an RC club, where he found great enjoyment in building and flying model aircraft.

In 1954, Frank moved to Winnipeg, where his sister Eleanor introduced him to her friend Mavis, then a nursing student and later his beloved wife. After Mavis completed her training and the couple enjoyed a long courtship, they were married on June 30, 1962. Together, they built their life in St. James, purchasing the one and only home they would ever own.

Frank and Mavis were blessed with two sons, Colin and Cameron. Frank enjoyed spending time with his boys, whether bike riding, swimming, cross-country skiing, or building woodworking projects together. That bond continued throughout his life, and even into his mid-seventies he was always willing to help with home repairs and renovation projects.

Frank began his career with the City of Winnipeg Property Assessment Division in 1953 and retired in 1989 after 35 years of dedicated service. He also spent several years working as an in-car driver’s education instructor.

A servant at heart, Frank generously gave of his time by delivering Meals on Wheels, serving as a Big Brother, and regularly donating blood.

Frank faithfully attended Kirkfield Park Baptist Church for many years, where he served in a variety of roles, including accountant, deacon, and Boys’ Brigade leader. Later, Frank and Mavis attended Calvary Temple and Faith Bible Church until declining health prevented them from attending in person. Frank’s faith in God was the foundation of his life. He often reflected the truth of 2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” His steadfast trust in the Lord was evident in both his words and the way he lived.

Frank also cared for some of his own brothers and sisters as they grew older and faced declining health. He faithfully drove them to medical appointments, and assisted with managing their personal finances. He quietly served others with love, compassion, and humility.

In the spring of 2024, Mavis experienced significant health challenges and became a resident of Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Frank faithfully visited her at every opportunity until his own health declined and he too became a resident of Calvary Place.

During the final two and a half months of his life, Frank and Mavis were once again together. He spent countless hours by her side, holding her hand, telling her how much he loved her, and cherishing every remaining moment they shared.

On July 28, 2026, Frank passed away peacefully and entered into the arms of his Lord and Saviour.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, health care aides, and staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their compassionate care, kindness, and support shown to both Frank and Mavis.

While Frank will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the assurance that he is now with his Saviour, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and walking by sight in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served.

A private family interment will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
