Obituary

Don Reimer was born on November 14, 1947 to Abe P. and Annie Reimer of Landmark. He passed away peacefully at the Ste Anne Hospital on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the age of 78. Although Don had been feeling ill for several months, he was only diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on July 21. One week later he was in heaven.

Don was predeceased by his parents and seven siblings (five in early childhood and his brother Stan and sister Susan in more recent years). He was also predeceased by several members of the Toews family, of which Don loved being a part of. He is survived by his wife Anna Marie (Toews) Reimer; his daughter Marguerite and her husband Dean and their children Jane and Ethan; his son Scott and his wife Stephanie and their children Aidan, Lucas, Finley, and Julia. In addition, Don will be deeply missed by many other family and friends who loved him and depended on him so much.

Don lived most of his life in Landmark. After spending his childhood there, he returned to Landmark shortly after getting married to Anna Marie in 1972. They remained in Landmark for 42 years before moving to Steinbach.

Don is well remembered for being a long-time classroom teacher. After a one-year term teaching in Kola at age 18, and 3 years in Altona, Don settled into a 34-year career teaching in the Hanover School Division at Landmark Collegiate, Steinbach Junior High, and Mitchell Middle School. Through those years, Don was able to share his calm presence and caring spirit with many colleagues and students.

Don loved sports and spent much of his life playing, coaching, refing/umping, and watching sports. To the very end, Don enjoyed watching golf on TV, going to grandkids’ sporting events, and hopelessly cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. After retiring from teaching, he was lucky enough to work for some of his former students at Cobblestone Homes and he found great camaraderie and purpose in helping out their construction company. Later in life, he took great pleasure in singing in the Eastman Male Choir and doing grocery pickups for South East Helping Hands.

His greatest love was serving and helping others. He was able to share 54 years of marriage with his wife Anna Marie and he loved to do all the projects that she could imagine. He served many family and friends with small building projects, woodworking, renovations, and odd jobs. Wherever there was a need, Don often made himself available to help out. Even if he felt he did not always have the expertise or the energy, he loved to bless others with his help. He also gave of himself in countless ways to his children and his 6 grandchildren. They were his pride and joy and he could be found driving to Winnipeg for a quick after-school pickup or delivering a child to music lessons. Don was always willing to go out of his way, even for small things, when it was to bless his kids and grandkids.

Don was also a follower of Jesus. From his early years in Sunday School through to the end, Don had a faith and hope in Jesus that he has now seen fulfilled.

Don’s family wishes to thank the amazing staff at the Ste Anne Hospital for the wonderful care Don and the family experienced over his last week.

The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
