Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edna P. Broesky, who passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the age of 87.

Edna was born on August 15, 1938, in the Rural Municipality of De Salaberry, Manitoba, to Jacob and Gertrude Pries. On September 22, 1956, she married the love of her life, John P. Broesky, and together they built a loving home and raised their family.

In her early years, Edna worked at a knitting factory in Winnipeg. Later, she answered the phones and took messages for the family septic business while John was out on service calls. Alongside her work, she was first and foremost a devoted homemaker, caring tirelessly for her family and making sure everyone was looked after. Her home was always welcoming, and she found great joy in tending to her beautiful gardens, which reflected the care and love she poured into everything she did. She found profound joy in her crafts and loved to see the joy they brought to those around her with every project she completed.

Edna’s greatest joy and source of strength was her personal relationship with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Her faith was evident in the way she lived each day – with humility, compassion, and a servant’s heart. Together, Edna and John faithfully served as a deacon couple for many years, encouraging and caring for others within their church family. She also devoted many years to teaching Sunday School and willingly gave her time in countless other volunteer roles. Whether serving behind the scenes or lending a helping hand wherever needed, she did so with a grateful heart, seeking to glorify God through her actions and to share His love with those around her.

Edna will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Jeff (Lenora), Randy (Annette), Barry (Cindy), and Corey (Evelyn); her son-in-law, Bob Friesen (Carol); her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Bercier; her brother, Jake (Helena) Pries; and their families.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John P. Broesky; her daughter, Barb Friesen; and her parents, Jacob and Gertrude Pries.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rest Haven for the exceptional care, compassion, and love they showed Edna during her time there. Your kindness brought comfort to both Edna and her family, and it will never be forgotten.

A funeral service celebrating Edna’s life will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service starting at 2:00 p.m.

Edna will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, selfless heart, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind in her family. Though she has left this earthly home, we rejoice in knowing that she is now in the presence of her Saviour, whom she faithfully loved and served throughout her life.
