Obituary

Marcel was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on November 4, 1959. He spent his early years in foster care until he went to live at the MDC in Portage la Prairie. Later he came back to Steinbach to live and spent his remaining years here.

Marcel was full of life and brought joy to everyone he met. He loved meeting new people and thought of everyone as a friend. Camping was one of his favourite things to do and he went whenever he could. Holidays were looked forward to all year and talked about for weeks afterwards. He was a favourite of his church family, and he made sure that everyone knew who he was. He would make sure to greet everyone with hugs or handshakes.

His enVision staff loved him and cared for him like family. Going for boat rides, or any kind of ride, was something he really enjoyed as long as he could go faster!! Animals, large and small, were very special to him. He loved parties and always wanted to be the center of attention. He was happiest if he could be the loudest. He was very loved and made our lives richer just because of who he was.

From Marcel’s Mom, Dorothy Greatrex:

How strange that Marcel’s journey should end on this earth the same place where it began. It is because of my struggles as a teenage mother of a brain damaged baby that I obtained my college degree in helping trafficked and abused women and their children here in Baja, Mexico. I am no longer that lost and disturbed teenager but, because of Marcel, I am the founder of MNC (Mujeres Nuevo Comienzo). To date we have had 600 women come through our doors. Marcel’s life changed my life and ultimately the lives of many more.
