Marcel Louis Joseph Gauthier, age 80, of La Broquerie, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Villa Youville, Ste. Anne, with his family by his side following a long journey with dementia.
Marcel will be lovingly remembered by his three children, Patsy (Darryl), Suzie (Dale), and Paul (Jocelyn); his nine grandchildren, Denis (Amber), Lauren (Ryan), Nicholas, Mikayla (Dylan), Kara, Carley, Angele, Kendra, and Riley; and his two great-grandchildren, Marcel and Vivienne.
He is also survived by his sister, three sisters-in-law and their families, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Marcel was predeceased by his beloved wife, Fernande; his parents and parents-in-law; two brothers; two sisters; a sister-in-law; and his son-in-law, Laurie.
Marcel and Fern were married on May 28, 1966, beginning a life together that would be filled with family, love, and many cherished memories. Anyone who knew Marcel and Fern knew how close they were. They were rarely far from one another, and Marcel loved Fern deeply. He would do just about anything to make her happy, even taking up travelling later in life so she could visit the places she wanted to see. Fern remained an important part of Marcel’s heart and memories throughout the years following her passing.
Marcel spent 42 years working at LaFarge, formerly Supercrete, where he built a career through hard work and dedication.
Outside of work, Marcel enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. Hunting was a tradition that began with his own father and was later passed down to his children and grandson. He was also a man who enjoyed his routines, his favorite westerns, the familiar comforts of home and Elvis.
The final years of Marcel’s life were shaped by dementia. While the disease changed many things, it could never take away the life he had lived, the love he had shared, or the memories created throughout his 80 years. His family takes comfort in knowing that his long journey has come to an end and that he is now at peace.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Villa Youville for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Marcel throughout his time there, and especially during his final days.
A funeral service celebrating Marcel’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.
