Juan Neufeld

Obituary

Juan Neufeld was born on October 27, 1974, to Peter and Anna Neufeld in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. He peacefully passed away on September 1, 2026, at the age of 51, after battling cancer for 11 years.

He grew up on the colony of Capulin. He was the fifth child in a family of twelve. Their father passed away when Juan was ten and life was not easy as he took on responsibilities beyond his years. Juan loved animals, especially horses, and enjoyed dairying.

On September 24, 1995, Juan married me, Anna Klassen. He cared and provided for me, and we shared 31 special years. Juan enjoyed being in the kitchen, helping me make breakfast and other meals. He loved reading his Bible and Sunday mornings were cherished, the two of us reading the Sunday School lesson together, each with a cup of coffee. Juan was a cheerful person with an easy smile. He loved others, gladly sacrificing his own time and desires for the good of his family and friends. He was a peacemaker and his faith in God and love for people gave him a sincere interest in the salvation of those he met. Being just the two of us, Juan and I did many things together and were privileged to travel to Bolivia, United States and Canada.

He could repair almost anything and was inventive and resourceful. A man of broad interests, Juan had many different occupations; farming, butchering, and lately running a printery. He loved life and had many dreams for the future.

When his older brother passed away in 1997, Juan took a closer look at his life. During this time of personal searching, the Lord did a work in his life. He did not even realize what this change was until his brothers in law told of their own new birth experiences. He then realized that he had been converted. Earvey and Darlene Ensz were a special encouragement to us when they came to Mexico, and we enjoyed worshiping together on Sundays. Through the years God gave him special dreams and other experiences, making His leading clear. After moving to Mississippi in 2006, an experience during a lightning storm by a fishpond especially impressed him to go ahead in faith. We were baptized in 2007 at Brook Haven Congregation, Brooksville, Mississippi, by Minister Galen Schmidt. The Church and the Faith were very precious to Juan.

After living in Mississippi for a time, we moved back to Mexico for ten years, spending the last six as missionaries. He loved being a missionary and gave himself to the mission effort. He had a heart for the Spanish people. Even right at the last, his heart was still with the mission effort in Mexico. Juan had a gift for languages, and the Spanish language was his favorite. He spent several years on the Low German proofreading committee and enjoyed working with his brethren and gospel literature.

After 19 years of marriage, Jessica joined us as a newborn. This was a special time in our lives. Juan dearly loved his daughter, and his soft heart won her to him in a close bond. She loved being with her daddy, following him around while he worked, and going places with him. In 2019 when Jessica was 6, we decided to move from Mexico to Rosenort, Manitoba, where she could attend a private Christian school.

During our time in Mexico, Juan was diagnosed with cancer. He patiently endured the battle, always holding on to the hope that one day, he would be cured. When it became clear that this was not to be, Juan quietly accepted the Lord’s will. The Lord blessed us with 2 weeks in the hospital where we could share hearts and say our goodbyes. Juan’s quiet acceptance and faith in God inspired caregivers, family, and friends alike, during this time.

Missing him dearly are his wife Anna and daughter Jessica, Red River congregation, Rosenort, Manitoba; Mother, Anna Neufeld, Chihuahua, Mexico; siblings: Henry and Helena Neufeld, Chihuahua, Mexico; Anna and Peter Dyck, Bolivia; Susan and John Klassen, Rosenort, Manitoba; Abram and Katharina Neufeld, Quintana Roo, Mexico; Maria and Johan Giesbrecht, Chihuahua, Mexico; Katharina and David Harder, David and Edith Neufeld, Isaac and Margarit Neufeld, Rosenort, Manitoba; Helena and Benhard Fehr, Quintano Roo, Mexico. Anna’s parents, Abe and Lena Klassen; Anna’s siblings; Cornelius and Helen Klassen, Abe and Margaret Klassen, Jacob and Annie Klassen, Helen and David Neufeld, Eva and Abe Peters, John and Susan Klassen, and Sara and Matt Nichols. Also step siblings and many special nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, stepfather, and two brothers.

The viewing service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. with devotional at 7:30 p.m., at Red River Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Rosenort, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Red River Church of God of Christ Mennonite, Rosenort, MB.
