It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Floyd Block, at the age of 71, on September 9, 2026, while doing something he loved – golfing.
Floyd was born on December 21, 1954, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in Grunthal. Floyd met the love of his life, Dorothy, when the two of them started dating at just 16 years old. They went on to marry and share 51 years together. They moved to Kelowna, BC, for a few years, where their two children were born, before returning home to Manitoba to raise their family.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his children, Jeff (Maria) and Kristin (Myron); and his grandchildren, Harrison, Ben, Marley, Jersey, Jude, Paisley, and Ruby, who were a great source of pride and joy for him – there was nowhere he would rather be than on the sidelines watching them play sports. He is also survived by his siblings, Wayne, Elaine (Ron), and Craig and his loyal companion, his dog Charlie. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry Block (1994) and Nettie Block (2004).
In his younger years, he was a key member of the Grunthal Generals baseball team. Later on, he coached hockey and baseball, was a proud member of the Grunthal Lions Club, and was a founder and builder of the Grunthal Motocross track. He also really enjoyed curling and cheering for the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
He worked many jobs over years spending time in farm equipment sales and as the manager of the local auto parts store in Grunthal – he knew pretty much everyone in town.
Floyd was an avid reader, had a deep love for photography, golfing, travelling, and camping. Whether he was behind a camera, out on the golf course, on the road with Dorothy, or spending time with his grandchildren, he could always be heard telling stories and debating issues – he was adamant that he was always right. He always looked forward to joking around with Dorothy and their friends during happy hour!
Floyd will be remembered for his warmth, his sense of humor, his community spirit, and the deep love and pride that he had for his entire family. He leaves behind a legacy built on being there for his wife, his kids and his grandchildren.
A private burial service will be held at the Grunthal Cemetery prior to the Celebration of Life, which will take place on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
