Peacefully, in the morning of September 20, 2026, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with the Lord. She passed away at the Altona Community Memorial Health Centre at the age of 101 years. Her husband Abe C. Loewen, her parents Henry D. and Katherine Brandt, seven sisters and five brothers predeceased her. Two of her sisters and two of her brothers died in early childhood.
Mom was born June 27, 1925 in Rosenort, MB. She attended the Greenbank School for her formal education. Her home was on a farm just across the Morris River from the school. She was baptized as a young woman and joined the Kleine Gemeinde at Rosenort (now the Evangelical Mennonite Church) and remained a faithful member all her life.
She married her beloved Abe on her birthday, June 27,1948. They purchased a farm east of the Rosenort EMC where they raised their family of 5 children. Mom faced challenges. She spent about ½ of her life being a caregiver to our dad. The 1950 flood was an extremely hard time. Dad stayed in the flood zone taking care of stranded animals while she together with a toddler spent her time in a stranger’s guest bedroom in Steinbach. Being a farmer’s wife had its challenges- crop failures, decisions about purchasing more farmland, floods, and a tornado.
Mom gave back to her church. She was a Sunday School teacher and helped with the renovation of the previous church building along with the finishing touches of this sanctuary. She was the president of the Rosenort EMC catering group for many years and was instrumental in the acquisition of a brand-new kitchen – appliances, dishes, everything, following the church fire. Mom was also an accomplished seamstress. She made much of her children’s wardrobes and also fashioned many prom and bridesmaids’ dresses as well as wedding gowns. This year her sewing machine was still in use as she altered clothes for herself and family.
After selling the farm, in 1985, Mom and Dad moved to Poplar Crescent in Rosenort. They relocated to Rosenort Housing Centre in 2003 where Mom resided until she was hospitalized this July.
Mom is survived by:
Daughter Laverna
Daughter Joanne (Ron Dyck)
Son Rey (Cindy)
Daughter Sheila ( Terry Friesen)
Daughter Jocelyn ( Carl Stevenson)
The family wishes to thank the nursing and medical staff at the Altona Hospital along with the Home Care and 24/7 staff for the care Mom received. We would like to thank everyone for the support, kindness and encouragement shown to us during this time.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Rosenort EMC, 509 River Rd S, Rosenort, MB.
