Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wanda Irene Hiebert (nee Reimer) in Steinbach Manitoba on September 25, 2026, at age 65.
Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Sieg; two sons, Jordan (Gillian), and their children, Nathan and Kaitlyn, and Andrew (Janie); three sisters, Eleanor (Larry) Penner, Elaine (Stephen) Cullen, and Kathleen (Ike) Thiessen; one brother, Lorne (Lu) Reimer; her in-laws, Regina (Abe) Giesbrecht, Selma Hiebert, Roy Letkeman, Anthony (Lilly) Donkersloot, and Susan Matskiw; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Tina Reimer; her parents-in-law, Jacob and Margaret Hiebert; four brothers-in-law, Rey Friesen, Jacob Hiebert, John Hiebert, and Ronald Hiebert; three sisters-in-law, Tina Letkeman, Mary Hiebert, and Sue Donkersloot; and one niece, Amy Giesbrecht.
Wanda was born in Steinbach on August 23, 1961, the fourth daughter of Emil and Tina Reimer. She grew up on a farm near Blumenort, Manitoba.
Wanda’s faith began in childhood when she committed her life to Jesus Christ, and this became the foundation of her life. She was baptized upon confession of faith at Blumenort EMC Church on November 23, 1975.
Wanda attended Steinbach Christian High School, enjoyed good marks and the camaraderie of participating with her friends on the school’s basketball and volleyball teams. She graduated in 1979.
After high school, she worked as a teller at Steinbach Credit Union. She then worked for Hanover School Division for over 32 years in roles as Student Services secretary, educational assistant, and Elmdale School secretary.
Wanda met the love of her life, Sieg Hiebert, while they were both working at Steinbach Credit Union. They were married on March 5, 1983, and enjoyed forty three years of married life together as best friends and companions. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Jordan and Andrew, with whom they shared many special family times. After some years, they welcomed two beautiful and kind daughters-in-law, Gillian and Janie.
A few years later, their most delightful grandchildren arrived: Nathan in 2021 and Kaitlyn in 2025. Wanda and Sieg cherished spending as much time with them as possible, and of course spoiling them.
Wanda enjoyed numerous activities outside of work. Her greatest love was traveling, and she was blessed to see 6 continents with Sieg; the only continent she did not travel to was Antarctica. Her favourite and most frequent destination was London, England where Jordan & Gillian and her grandchildren reside. Wanda’s hands were seldom idle; she completed many cross-stich projects and was delighted to present each finished piece to its intended recipient. Other activities included family activities like camping, cycling, taking long walks, baking and preparing treats for family and friends; attending Blue Bomber games, numerous fine arts/musical productions, reading, and of course casual golf with Sieg.
Wanda’s accomplishments and the activities she enjoyed remind us of what she did, but her character tells us of who she was. Wanda had a pure heart, and her consistent smile radiated the love of God to all. She had a way of making everyone around her feel valued. Wanda was always a peace maker, trustworthy, gracious, gentle, kind, faithful, selfless, demonstrating humility and wisdom. These steadfast qualities of character and faith have been a testimony to many here on Earth and honouring to God above. By living a spirit filled life Wanda left us a legacy that brings glory to God rather than self.

Thirteen months ago, Wanda was diagnosed with incurable cancer. With great courage Wanda tried numerous different treatments to extend her life. She fought hard to stay a little longer, but sadly her body did not respond to any of the treatments as we watched her physical body slowly fade away. Wanda breathed her last breath with Sieg and sons Jordan and Andrew surrounding and holding her.
While Wanda will be deeply missed and our hearts are broken, we as a family rejoice in the assurance that she is now with her savior Jesus Christ. Jesus said “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:2-3)
The family would like to thank all the caregivers and express a heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming amount of support from so many of you. Thank you for your love, kindness, and prayers while on this difficult road.
We invite you to a celebration of Wanda’s life on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to the service at Southland Church, 190 PTH 52 W, Steinbach, MB.
