Obituary
With profound sadness and loving remembrance, we announce the peaceful passing of Nettie Klippenstein (nee Toews) of Niverville, Manitoba, at St. Pierre Hospital in the early morning hours of Friday, September 25, 2026, at the age of 92.
Nettie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 72 years, Peter Klippenstein; her children, Dave (Ruth), Alvin (Tanis), and James (Lisa); her sister, Mary; 2 grandsons, Patrick (Veronica) and Nathan (Meagan); 5 great grandchildren and many cherished family members and close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Helena Toews; her brother, John; her sisters, Anna, Sarah, Helen and Liz; and her grandson, Christopher.
Nettie was born on January 30, 1934, and grew up in the New Bothwell area. In her early years, she worked at a sewing factory and later at a coffee shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Nettie was introduced to her lifelong partner, Peter, at a family member’s wedding. It was the beginning of a beautiful love story as on August 1, 1954, they were married. They began their lifelong journey together residing in Winnipeg and welcoming their first son, David, in 1957.
The couple then purchased farmland in Tourond but moved in with Peter’s parents while they contemplated their next steps together. They eventually moved into their own home on their newly acquired farmland. Shortly thereafter, they purchased additional farmland and moved into a new homestead down the road, where they welcomed their second son, Alvin, in 1966.
Following many long and challenging days spent farming and building their homestead, their third son, James, was born in 1973.
For many years, Nettie and Peter worked together farming sugar beets, cereal crops, and raising hogs. They retired from farming in 2000 and soon built their next home in Niverville. Later in 2017 they relocated across the way to their Heritage Life Retirement Living condo.
Throughout her life, Nettie found many ways to serve and give to others. She was a Sunday school teacher and also supervised a kitchen where she provided catering for others. She enjoyed birds, puzzling, playing games such as yahtzee and crokinole, gardening, sewing, and crocheting. She was especially known for the many beloved dishcloths she lovingly made for family and friends.
Nettie also loved bowling, a passion that brought her many accomplishments. She along with Peter won multiple awards and participated in numerous senior bowling events. She also took great pride in volunteering with Son City, a long running local youth lunch program, where she helped prepare and serve lunches to high school students on Tuesdays.
Nettie was adventurous and loved to travel with Peter. An impromptu road trip could sometimes lead them to an entirely different destination than originally planned. They even travelled the long journey to Paraguay to visit family and friends, creating many wonderful memories along the way.
Nettie was extremely proud of her faith. She was a member of the Word of Life Mission Church in Niverville and lived her faith through her love, service, and care for others. We are confident that she is now in the presence of God, whom she loved and served wholeheartedly.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52 W, Steinbach, Manitoba, viewing at the church one hour prior to the service. Faspa will follow immediately, with interment to follow at Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville, Manitoba.
