Obituary

Noëlla Aurore Marie Lafond passed away, with her loved ones by her side, on October 5, 2026, at Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 76. She will be remembered for her kindness, hard work, and the laughter she brought to those around her.

Born on December 25, 1949, in Morris, Manitoba, Noëlla grew up on the family farm in St. Jean Baptiste. She married Philippe Cormier in 1970 and started her own family in La Salle. Despite later getting divorced and moving to Winnipeg, Noella always remained connected to the Cormier Clan.

She was a loving mother to Daniel (Jaylin) Cormier and Brigitte (Tom) Hildebrand, and a proud grandmother to Jaydan (Melayna Drozd) Cormier, Jesse Hildebrand, Braydan Cormier, Nolan Hildebrand, and Ajay Hildebrand. She is also dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her siblings Lucette (Derek) Lavallée, Denis (Monique) Lafond, Normand (Anne-Marie) Lafond, Monique (Roger) Lavallée, Rachelle (Robert) Tessier, and Gérald (Maryse) Lafond, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Nestor and Jeannette (née Valcourt) Lafond.

Noëlla worked hard throughout her life, beginning on the family farm, then in their family butcher shop, followed by driving school buses for Seine River, Fort Garry, and St. Boniface school divisions. She later spent many years with Canada Post, starting as a letter carrier and retiring as a supervisor. She was known for her strong work ethic, dependability, and friendly nature.

She loved baseball, curling, and especially golf, which she continued to play into her final months and was grateful to enjoy her last round in July. She especially cherished time spent with family and friends. Noëlla was also a wonderful baker, fondly remembered for her tourtières, turtles and butter tarts.

Noëlla’s passing from pulmonary fibrosis leaves a great emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind many treasured memories of laughter, shared meals, her delicious baking, and the simple ways she showed she cared. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Kingswood Golf and Country Club in La Salle, Manitoba. A private inurnment will take place at the St. Jean Baptiste parish cemetery.
