Obituary

Rachel Joy was born on October 19,1973 at the Ste. Anne Hospital, to John and Sarah Thiessen. Growing up in the Blumenort area on a farm with her four older brothers, she spent her childhood learning the ways of the land. After an unsuccessful attempt at riding our beloved Abigail the donkey, she got her own horse which became quite a passion for a while. At the age of 9, she was baptized at the Full Gospel Chapel in Steinbach.

In September 1999, she attended the South Eastern Manitoba Christian Education Convention, and this is where she met Wayne. It was love at first sight and they were married on March 2, 2001. She was a familiar face at Derksen Printers, till she moved to Portage la Prairie in 2003 to help with a new church. Rachel enjoyed playing keyboard as she led worship in Pansy Chapel and later at Christian Fellowship Church in Steinbach, MB. Rachel was very creative; whether it was writing praise and worship songs, doing crafts or making jewelry.

In Portage la Prairie, Rachel worked at Jeffries Nurseries as an Administrative Assistant, while very active as a Praise and Worship Leader at Prairie Community Church along with her husband Wayne. Rachel’s burden for widows resulted in Sarah’s Heart; where she organized many events for widows; whether it was Spring Teas or large banquets.

Rachel and Wayne moved to Winnipeg in 2015 due to her worsening heart condition, where they continued their music ministry at the Church of the Rock Bronx Park Campus. Rachel worked at Den 205 (a prayer ministry) and continued playing keyboard until her failing health didn’t allow her to continue earlier this year.

In 2005, Rachel was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, and with failing health was hoping for a heart transplant in 2017 but was told she didn’t qualify due to severe osteoporosis and other potential medical complications. She spent lots of time in the hospital in the last year, and made an impact for Jesus wherever she went; whether it was the doctors, nurses or health care aides or her roommates in her hospital room. Rachel was under the care of an amazing medical team at the St. Boniface Hospital and we are grateful for all they did for her.

Rachel was called into the presence of her Heavenly Daddy on the morning of August 14, 2018, free from anymore pain. Rachel is survived by her loving husband Wayne, brothers Rick and Robert both from Calgary and their families.

Thank you for all your prayers, encouragement and visits.

The funeral service for Rachel will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with a viewing prior to the service. The burial will follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
