Obituary

John Wiebe passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 10, 2017, at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.

He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Jeanette, three loving sons; Derek, Kyle & Cyndi, Todd & Lisa, 11 grandchildren; Tevin (Brenna), Teagan, Brittany (TJ), Owen, Georgia, little Liam, Noah, Michael, big Liam, Tanner & Charlotte; his siblings Pete Wiebe, Ben & Janice Wiebe, Abe & Justine Wiebe, Henry & Marilyn Wiebe, and Marge and Dave Wall; brothers and sisters in law Maurice & Kathy Bertouille; and Joyce & Jerry DeBlonde.

John is predeceased by his parents John & Mary Wiebe, Sister Mary Fehr, and sister-in-law Helen Wiebe.

John met Jeannette in 1969 and they were married on May 16, 1970. For five years they lived in Winnipeg, moving their family to the Niverville area in 1975. Throughout his career, John worked as a gravel truck driver, a long haul truck driver, then Winnipeg Transit for over 26 years until he retired.

He loved his boys completely. When they were younger, he made sure they were on time for their baseball and hockey games and practices. He always encouraged them to do their best and was proud of everything they accomplished. John was also a huge sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Yankees and the Blue Bombers. He was always asking Jeannette to find the Yankees on TV as he didn’t want to miss a game.

Time spent camping and fishing with family was always a highlight. These trips were cherished, whether at Fairford River or Watchorn Bay with Ben and Janice, camping at Lake 7 with Joyce & Jerry and family, or even a day trip when he was no longer able to drive to take the trailer. He enjoyed each trip, right up to the last one on July 30, only one day before he fell and broke his hip.

A favourite place to spend time was at the cabin at St. Malo, from when the walls first started to go up, to when he could enjoy many days spent with his family there. He could be found sitting and having cookies with little Liam late at night since he loved the cookies as much as Liam did! He especially loved to sit on the deck and watch his grandchildren play.

Gatherings with family also brought great joy, faspa at Marg and Dave’s, planning the Christmas gathering, then getting together in summer or at Christmas to sit, visit, and share a delicious feast with 50-100 loved ones from the Wiebe family.

John was a very gentle man, always happy, showing care for others, with a smile on his face. His family will miss him so very much and he will always be in their hearts.

Cremation as taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday August 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Golden Friendship Centre, 118 2nd Ave S., Niverville, MB.
