Paul Jacob Friesen, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, August 24, 2017 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, with his family by his side after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
Paul was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Katherine Friesen, sister Lydia, brother Edwin and nephew Kenneth.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 47 years, Barbara, four children and their spouses: Gwen (Michael), Colleen (Ross), Curtis, and Dawson (Amie). He is also lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren: Jazmyn (Cory), Aaron (Shauntel), Dylan (Alandra), Shaquel, Sarah, Megan, Kasey, and Jordan and three great-grandchildren: Cash, Colt and Huckson.
Paul had a special relationship with many family members. His siblings, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, appreciated Paul`s sense of humor and encouraging words.
Paul was born into a Christian home where his mom and dad lived very godly lives by example. He was born in Morris, Manitoba on June 22, 1948 to Jacob D. and Katherine L. Friesen. At age 14, Paul gave his life to Christ and was baptized in the Mennville EMC. The family farmed 640 acres north of Riverton that Paul took over in 1970.
On April 18, 1970, Paul married the love of his life, Barbara Elaine. They were blessed with four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In 1980, they decided to sell the farm and moved to Kleefeld. Paul took his real estate course and began his career as a real estate agent that lasted 38 years. He was widely trusted by his colleagues and clients. Paul made many sacrifices, leaving a lasting legacy of how to respect and treat people.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, seeking adventure, building relationships and serving on various boards and committees including Eden Mental Health, MCC, Haven Group and numerous church committees. Paul had the ability to connect with many different types of people in many walks of life. Paul kept his faith at the forefront of his thoughts, often mentoring people in need.
Viewing service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB. The burial will follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
