Abram (Abe) Kehler Friesen was born September 29, 1931 to Abram & Helena Friesen in the RM of Richot, Manitoba. He and his six sisters grew up on the family farm and attended the Prefontaine School.
Dad was baptized in Randolph in 1951. On July 14, 1957 he married Anne Stoesz. They lived in the Niverville area from 1957-1960. During these years, dad and mom managed a chicken farm, Dad worked in construction, and custom harvested sugar beets. From 1960-1963 they rented a farm where they grew crops and milked their own cows. Dad & Mom purchased their own dairy farm near Landmark in 1963 and farmed until 1985, when Dad’s back trouble necessitated an early retirement. They spent their retirement years living in Friedensfeld, Kleefeld and Steinbach. Dad drove school bus from 1984-1992, until a heart attack ended his bus driving career. He suffered a stroke in February 2006 and thereafter dementia set in. He was admitted to the Rest Haven Nursing Home in July of 2012 and died peacefully on October 7, 2017.
Dad is predeceased by his parents, Abram & Helena, one infant sister Anna, and one granddaughter, Miranda.
He is survived by his wife Anne of Steinbach, four sons – Pete & Rose of Niverville, Jake & Lisa of Landmark, Ed & Kathy of Kleefeld, and Dan & Trish of Steinbach; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; six sisters – Helen Harder of Steinbach, Kathy Martens of Mitchell, Mary Harder, Susan & Henry Kehler, Nettie & Dick Enns, and Anne & Heinz Toews, all of Steinbach; two brothers-in-law: Henry & Eileen Stoesz of Medicine Hat, AB, and Jacob Stoesz of Steinbach and one sister-in-law Mary & Jake Peters of Pinewa, MB.
