Mary Harms passed away peacefully at Bethesda Regional Health Centre on December 2, 2020.
She is survived by her husband, Jakob, three daughters, two sons and their families; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mom was born on May 24, 1942 in Halbstadt Manitoba. She lived in Manitoba all her life and was baptized during her early years.
Mom’s first job was at C.T. Loewen where she met Jakob (Jake) Harms. They later got married on August 12, 1962. Shortly after that Jake and her dad started building a home in the country. Soon after that, the children came – there were 5 in total.
Mom was very active and busy keeping things in order at home. She was such a leader and teacher. She was very busy with Church activities teaching Sunday school, later being the Food Convener of Church and the President of the Ladies Mission, sewing blankets. 2015 was the year she retired from all Church activities.
At home Mom had a very large garden and till her final day, still had a garden… just a smaller one that she tended to with a friend. Her latest hobby was watching caterpillars become butterflies. She also enjoyed taking rides and taking lots of pictures.
Mom and dad lived in their country home for 47 years at which time they moved to Fernwood Place.
Mom so much enjoyed retirement… taking pictures and being able to walk in the big City of Steinbach having the freedom to just get up and go was such a blessing!
Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre for taking such good care of our mom. Your work is truly appreciated.
A private family service will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Mennonite Church followed by the interment at Heritage Cemetery.
