Obituary

April Dawn Bennici, aged 37 years, of Steinbach, MB., passed away following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

She is survived by her beloved husband and their two daughters: Francesca and Joya; her parents: Anita Wiens (step-father Paul Wiens) and Randy Hiebert; one sister Sheena, as well as many close family and friends.

April obtained her university degree in Education at the University of Winnipeg and worked with Borderland School Division where she was able to powerfully impact many young lives. Her favourite years were teaching grades 5 and 6, but loved all her students and went above and beyond to set them up for success. In 2016, April married Jonathan, the Iove of her life. Together they had two beautiful smart, and strong young girls, Francesca (5), and Joya (3).

April loved spending time reading, drawing, and was Iooking forward to working her new flower garden. April had a passion for fishing, along with Jonathan, they would venture out to different lakes every chance they had and would spend their day on the water. April always seemed to catch the bigger fish. That passion was one she hoped to carry on with her family, as well as stopping for an ice cream on the way home.

April’s family was everything to her, and she made sure everybody knew it. Right to the very end of her life, April kept her families needs before her own.

Through all of April’s struggles with her illness, her faith in Jesus only grew stronger inside her. In her last few months, April’s faith grew inside her faster than the cancer that ultimately took her life. April shared her faith openly with everyone she encountered, giving her last bit of strength to the one’s she loved dearly.

Two of the last quotes in April’s journal perfectly sums up her selfless heart for others and her faith in Jesus.

“One day you’ll have a testimony of how you overcame what you’re currently going through… It will be the inspiration someone needs for their own testimony.”

A livestreamed public funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing one hour prior to the service.
