My beloved husband, our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harold Dueck, was born on August 30, 1931, to John P. and Anna Penner Dueck at Ste. Anne, MB. He peacefully passed away in the early morning of April 13, 2018, at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, reaching the age of eighty six years.
Dad was the fourth of eight children. He went through a difficult time at twelve years of age when his mother passed away. Later, his father married Katherine Penner who became his new mother. He was convicted of his sins, repented and on the confession of his faith was baptized on December 10, 1944, into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Jonas B. Koehn. In his quiet way he endeavored to be faithful to these vows all his life.
He attended the Montezuma School at Greenland, MB.
February 17, 1957, Dad was joined in marriage to Lydia Mae Boehs at Fairview, OK. Their home was blessed with three daughters and five sons. Their first home was at Marchand, Manitoba, where they pioneered three and a half years until they moved to Greenland, MB, where they lived for seven years. In 1967 they purchased a farm next to the U.S. border south of Cartwright, MB, where they moved with their young family. They became the eighth family in the small congregation. He farmed and especially enjoyed working with his livestock.
Dad unselfishly worked many long hours for his family. He lovingly cared for us children. Our father taught us the Christian way. He was a peace loving, kind and gentle father. He was meticulous in all areas of life and taught us to be careful with our possessions. He had an extra sparkle in his eye when his grandchildren came to visit!
Dad and Mom moved off the farm to an apartment in town during the fall of 2010. Due to his declining health in Oct of 2014 he moved to Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, MB, where he was lovingly cared for by the Manor family. We as a family really appreciate the wonderful care he received.
