Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather Stanford Penner at age 86. He died peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB after a steady decline from his second stroke.

Stan was born on December 9th 1931. He was the first son born to David and Helen Penner of Lorette, Manitoba. He attended school in Landmark and quit school in grade 8 to help on the family farm. Stan met his wife of 62 years, Rose Marie Unger, at a young age and they married July 21, 1956 in Landmark, MB. Stan and Rose started their married life off in National Mills up north where Stan had a lumber and pulp business. Two sons were born during this time, David was born December 16, 1957 in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and Mark was born March 29, 1962 in Swan River, Manitoba. Stan and Rose moved back to Landmark in 1969 where they both went to work for Hanover School Division as teachers until retirement. Stan and Rose dedicated a lot of time volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest and MCC.

His family paid this tribute to him “Stan had a kind heart and always wanted to help people in need. His heart was up north at the Porcupine Mountains. Stan had a strong Christian faith and always wanted to do the right thing.”

In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, chopping wood, teaching his grandchildren Low German and travelling. Stan was a peacemaker and spent much of his time doing just this wherever he saw the need: from writing letters to world leaders to promoting peace locally.

Stan and Rose loved doing almost everything together and really enjoyed their time at the “Shack” on their bush land near La Broquerie, their cottage at Falcon Lake and also their many return trips to National Mills.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie, son David and wife MaryAnn, son Mark and wife Diana, grandchildren, Lindsay & Jason Maltby, Kyle & Tina Penner, Janessa & Dave Atkins, Carson & Renee Penner, Kelly & Ryan O’Donnell and Lisa Penner. Great grandchildren Ethan, Shea & Ryan Atkins, Brock & Kimber Maltby and Connor Penner. Stan is also survived by one sister and four brothers.

Stan was predeceased by his parents, four sisters and one brother.

Matthew 5: 10 reads “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”.
