Obituary

On Monday, June 16, 2025, Justina, 87, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB.

Born on August 28, 1937, to Johan and Justina Sawatzky, she was the eldest of 16 siblings. Four siblings passed away as children. She grew up with five sisters and six brothers in Chaco Paraguay.

Justina married Johan Wiebe at the age of 19. Shortly after they welcomed their first son, Herman, and five years later they welcomed their second son, Pete.

They moved from Paraguay to Canada a couple of times. In 2004 they decided to make Canada their home. In 2007, her husband of 51 years passed.

She loved sewing. She sewed most of her own dresses and loved making blankets. She also enjoyed her gardens and fruit trees. Grandchildren remember her telling them all about the different types of fruits in her garden, playing with her doll collection, making homemade peanut butter and plucking chickens for lunch.

Her last few years were spent in the Bethesda Place where she received good care and lots of visitors.

Predeceased by daughter-in-law Anni, her husband Johan, great-granddaughter Paula, and son Herman.

She will be remembered by her son Pete and his wife Marlene, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many others.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with viewing at 10:00 a.m., at Church of God, 450 McKenzie Ave., Steinbach, MB. The interment will take place at Rosengard Cemetery, RM of Hanover, MB.
