Helen was born to Peter and Sarah Wiebe of New Bothwell on February 7, 1951. She was the eldest of five girls. She grew up in the New Bothwell area her whole childhood.
Mom and Dad first met at Dad’s grandparents’ anniversary get together. A year later they married on April 20, 1968. Mom was a homemaker until they were blessed with five children; Charlie (Debbie), Byron, Colleen (Arnold), Edward (Sherrie), Kevin (Ashley). Mom and Dad lived in Rosengart with their five children for 17 years before moving to Kleefeld, where they lived for 24 years before moving to Grunthal.
Mom was a homemaker for many years before entering the workforce; Busy Bee’s, Pioneer Inn, Magnolia Restaurant, DQ, The Waffle Shop. Later, she turned to help her best friend, Tina, at Ideal Fashion where she would retire. At Ideal Fashion she earned the nick name “Hawk Eye”.
Mom was well known for her ability to cook. She always made sure everyone had left with a full stomach. She always knew her recipes off her heart, hardly needing to look at them. There was no crowd she could not feed! Cooking wasn’t the only talent she had, she also loved to garden and plant flowers. She loved to admire all the flowers as they bloom throughout the summer.
Mom always had time for their 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, not one could fluster her, she could calm any one of them. Mom also enjoyed camping with Dad and family in their retirement years. Mom enjoyed going for coffee with family and friends. Her past times were spent puzzling, playing cards, and baking. Mom paid a lot of attention to detail. She always wrote things down and liked to be organized.
Mom fell ill through the winter of 2024, and was eventually diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer on June 3, 2025. Mom went home to her saviour on July 3, 2025, peacefully with her family by her side.
Mom was an amazing person didn’t matter if she knew you or not, she always had room in that big heart of hers.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing one hour prior to the service.
