He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children: Alma (Art), Ernie (Linda), John (Jen), Willie (Olivia), Elsie (Ron), Ed (Rose), Tina (Rod), Alvina (Allen), 24 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Tina, brother Jacob (Mary), and several in-laws.
He was predeceased by his wife Tina, parents Diedrich and Elizabeth Schroeder, sisters Elizabeth and Maria, brothers Philip, John, Diedrich, Cornelius, Willie, Henry, Simon, David, and Benhard, several brothers & sisters-in-law and daughter-in-law Loreen Schroeder.
Peter was born in Halbstadt, MB., on July 19, 1934. He spent his childhood years in Manitoba, moving with his family to St. Anne, then to Pansy, and in his early teenage years his parents moved the family to Paraguay. It is there that he met his wife Tina and they were married on April 25, 1954, and started their family of eight children. In 1968, after much thought and prayer, our parents decided to return to Canada.
Peter enjoyed many hobbies, including; walking to the coffee shop, helping mom tend to her gardens, growing the largest tomatoes that you could imagine, mowing endless amounts of grass, feeding and watching the birds, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a family we all benefited from his dedication and hard work. Dad deeply cherished his family and loved to hear about what everyone was up to.
Our family would like to extend our sincere thank you to all the staff who cared for him at Bridge Park Manor, making that initial move out of their home so much easier. Also, a huge thank you to the Rest Haven staff who so faithfully looked after our dad and for the loving care, especially in his last days. We also wish to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Bruno Kampen for his care and companionship over the last few years. Our dad loved and looked forward to his time with you.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” ~ John 14:1-3
The memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with a private family interment to take place prior to the service.
