Obituary

It is with love and great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Alice, on Saturday, July 08, 2017 at Rest Haven Nursing Home at the age of 91 years.

Left to lovingly remember Alice are her children: Bill (Olga), Olivia (Doug), Peter (Shirley), Ernie (Lena), Irene, Phyllis (Don); son-in-law Leonard Petryk; grandchildren Dwayne (Luba), Kristin (Keri), Leanne (Kevin), Tracy, June, Ed, Tannis (Justin), Aaron, Scarlette (Greg), Josh (Elyscia), Matthew (Tiffany), Jason (Melanie), Ashton (Debra); 21 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband John, of 52 years, in 1995, her parents Peter and Polly Rusak, only brother Bill, daughters: Sally Petryk and Edith, son Ed and wife Florence, sons-in-law: Don Doyle and Bob Marsh, grandson Nathan Bezditny.

Alice was born on March 01, 1926 in Sarto, MB to Ukrainian immigrants Peter and Polly Rusak. Being the eldest of two children in humble beginnings, Alice learned the value of hard work, family love and commitment as well as her never ending willingness to help anyone.

On June 10, 1944, she married the love of her life, John, and settled on the family farm in Pansy, MB. Together they worked and toiled very hard to build a good life for their nine children. Family gatherings were always very important to her as she carefully planned and prepared, with her loving touch, the most delicious amazing meals and desserts.

In the twilight of Alice’s life, her religion and faith was a strong comfort to her. She served as a dedicated sisterhood member at her church for many years and helped in keeping the church cemetery well manicured. She was an instrumental volunteer at the Pansy Hall. Alice had a great sense of humour and was a selfless person who had a soft spot for children.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cedarwood Place, Vita Personal Care Home, and Resthaven Care Home for their exceptional care and compassion.

ln lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Envision Community Living, 84 Brandt Street, Steinbach, MB.

Pallbearers are: Dwayne Petryk, Kristin Bezditny, Josh Doyle, Jason Martens, Ashton Martens, and Matthew Doyle.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB with Father Yuri Maljek officiating.
