Obituary

John Rempel, aged 93, of Steinbach, Manitoba passed away peacefully at Bethesda Place on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

He was the third born child of Henry and Annie (nee Brandt) Rempel on December 11, 1931 at Pleasant Valley, Manitoba. He was baptized upon his confession of faith as a young man at the Rosenort Evangelical Mennonite Church. He spent his working life driving trucks. It became such a passion for him that he drove until he was 74. His last years of driving were for Canada Safeway, There he proudly earned many safe driving awards.

He married Helen (nee Klassen) in August of 1954 in Rosenort. They settled in Winnipeg and raised four children. He had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He loved having his family join them for meals, Barbeques, sitting in his backyard, and keeping the fire pit and mosquito coils burning were special times to him. He could often be found sitting at his picnic table in his backyard alone resting after a trip to Thunder Bay. His family will remember his great love of dachshunds.

John is survived by his wife Helen and their children Charleen (Norm) Solnik, Blaine (Carol), Terry, and Tami (Shawn) Smith. John had eight grandchildren; Shaun, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Joshua, Ainslie, Quinnton, Holden, and Damian. He also had five great-grandchildren; Olena, Maksim, Josiah, Aaron and Eric.

John was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Pete, Cornelius, and Edward, his sisters, Elizabeth, Leona and Elda. He is survived by his brother, Leslie (Elaine), four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude for the loving care provided by Bethesda Place staff for Dad during his last months.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The private ash interment will take place at a later date at Rosenort Cemetery, Rosenort, MB.
