Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Paul Hiebert, who left us peacefully in the early morning hours of October 12, 2025, at Ste. Anne Hospital, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Anita, their three daughters: Jaleesa (Brad), Taylor (Brendon), and Madisen (Juan Manuel), and his cherished parents, Peter and Mary Hiebert. He leaves behind his siblings, Marlene (Mike), Leonard (Adina), Erwin (Roberta), Irene (Terry), Ron (Pearl), Diane (Tom), and Dennis (Marge), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will all miss him dearly.

Ray was born on October 4, 1968, in St. Pierre, Manitoba, and lived in Grunthal most of his life. Ray’s life was rooted deeply in his faith and community. He was baptized upon his confession of faith at the Grunthal EMB Church on June 16, 1985, and proudly served as an elder at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church since 2004, offering his wisdom, guidance, and support to the congregation over the years.

Prior to becoming an elder, he also served in various committees in church and in the community. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he was always an active member of his church, helping wherever he was needed.

Ray married Anita, the love of his life, on May 21, 1988. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family, raising three beautiful daughters. His role as a husband and father was central to his being, and he was proud of his family.

For many years, Ray was a poultry farmer, living the life he loved. He transitioned to working with Penner Farm Services in 2011, where he continued to pour his heart into his work until he could no longer. Ray loved his job, and his eyes would light up whenever he spoke about his work and the people he had the privilege to work with. His passion for what he did was evident, and it is a legacy that will live on in the memories of all who worked alongside him.

Ray was known for being a man of strength, both physically and emotionally. In 2019, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, a challenge that would test his resilience in ways few could understand. Through multiple surgeries and countless treatments, Ray never wavered in his faith. He accepted the trials before him with grace and courage, believing that this path was part of God’s plan for him. His strength, both in the face of illness and in life, was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Outside of his work and his faith, Ray found joy in the simple pleasures of life, quad rides in the countryside, watching football, going camping every summer, sitting by the fire, going on road trips, and enjoying the company of his family and friends. While he could be serious when needed, Ray had a sharp sense of humor that would often bring smiles to those around him. He had a gift for making people laugh, and his presence lit up any room he entered.

Ray will forever be remembered as a devoted father, loving husband, cherished son, brother, and friend. His legacy of strength, love, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their compassionate care and comfort during Ray’s final days. Also thank you to the Steinbach Cancer Care team and his palliative care nurses. Your kindness meant the world to us.

Ray’s love and influence will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.

The funeral service for Ray will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church, Grunthal, MB, with viewing one hour prior to the service. The interment will take place following the service at the Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB.
