Obituary
Peacefully on the morning of Sunday, October 12, 2025, with her family by her side, Peggy passed away at the age of 71.
She is survived by her husband Jim, her children Daniel (Melanie), Kimberly (Jonathan), and Meghan (Chris), her grandchildren James, Noah, Lisa, Emily, Alice, Sarah, Savannah, and Kennedy, brother Tom and family, Dianne and family, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Margaret and siblings Judy, Bruce, and Warren.
She was born in Minnedosa, MB., on sunny August 13, 1954. She was raised on her family farm surrounded by animals and endless adventures. Peggy had a fun and loving upbringing, full of laughter and mischief. Between caring for animals, hiding kittens in the house so grandma wouldn’t see them, training a fox named “Tippy”, and pulling the occasional prank, there was never a dull moment. Her brothers were known for their teasing, and Peggy was often the good-natured butt of their jokes – something she took in stride with her trademark laugh and quick wit.
Peggy shared a special bond with her cousin Dianne, who was like a sister to her. The two were inseparable growing up, creating countless memories together that grew a foundation for a lifelong-lasting relationship. She was also exceptionally close to her parents, who instilled in her a deep sense of kindness, faith, and love for family and the Lord. Peggy cherished their guidance and carried their warmth and humor with her throughout her life.
She attended Havelock School in her elementary years and later graduated from Minnedosa Collegiate. She was a bright and determined student who worked hard and took pride in doing her best.
Music was one of Peggy’s earliest passions. She began playing piano at a young age and quickly became known for her abilities and commitment. This earned her numerous awards and recognition. Whether performing at church, or playing at home for family and friends, Peggy’s music brought warmth and joy to everyone around her.
After graduation, she moved to Brandon with Dianne where she worked at the bank. She met and shared a wonderful friendship with her dear friend, Ginette. The two shared countless laughs and adventures over the years, including a special stay together during the Flood of ‘97. Sharon Savinkoff was a treasured friend of Peggy’s, and they enjoyed many visits and special memories together.
Peggy’s first marriage to Brian blessed her with three children, Daniel, Kimberly and Meghan. In 1995 Peggy met the love of her life Jim. From the start, their bond was filled with laughter, kindness and deep affection. They married on August 1, 1998, and soon made their home in McMunn, where Peggy embraced the quiet beauty of country living. She loved swimming in the river on warm days, visiting with friends, hosting Grandma and loved ones, and playing games around the kitchen table with Jim and Meghan, even when Jim cheated. Her home was always full of laughter and warmth. Peggy also had a deep love of gardening – her yard was always bright with flowers that she tended to with care and pride, and a garden full of vegetables ready to be enjoyed. Life in McMunn was everything she cherished: peace, joy and being surrounded by the people and simple pleasures she loved most.
Throughout her life, Peggy was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. In later years, she worked at Great-West Life in Winnipeg before moving on to Pineland Nursery, Manitoba Conservation, and later the Canadian Animal Health Coalition, where she met and formed a special bond with Marcie and Jen. No matter where she was employed, Peggy was admired for her reliability, kindness, sense of humor, and the genuine friendships she built along the way.
Above all else, Peggy loved her family deeply. She was someone who poured her heart into every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Whether it was playing games, celebrating holidays, or simply sharing stories around the table, she made every gathering a memorable one. Her faith was the quiet strength that guided her life – she loved the Lord wholeheartedly and found peace and purpose in her relationship with Him. She spent hours on the phone playing hymns for her children and grandchildren.
Though she is gone from our sight, her laughter, love and faith will echo in our hearts forever and she will always be with us.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Burial will take place at a later date.
